Memories of Alpie
| Alpie .. only 3 weeks when you and your brothers came into my life ... I bottle fed you ... watched you eat your first solid food ... gave you your first bath ... enjoyed the magic of watching you discover your surroundings ... your first x-mas tree was a flocked douglas fir ... you, Gizmo and Boston would disappear beneath the branches, the tree starting to shake as you all found limbs to climb, only to reappear totally flocked. Your love of pasta, green beans and brown rice ... enjoying the running water from the sink ... Pam nicknamed you "Doodles" and to us you would remain, "Alpie Doodles." We all took off for Joshua Tree in the spring of 2003 while our home was being rebuilt ... a mellow passenger in the car ... how you loved the desert and would sit from within always looking out at the quiet yet stirring landscape ... you were the leanest and the fastest of your brothers. One minute you would be sitting and the next you'd be tearing across the hardwood floors and zooming up the stairs ... always on the counter and always on the diningroom table ... always feeling comfortable draped on my shoulder ... Pam was mom too and she was the only other person you would allow to hold you ... how you would carefully sneak up to her while we were sitting at the table and gently put your paw on her arm, all the while looking directly into her eyes. Your other nickname was "Shredder," as you chewed many a photograph, check and asorted papers when frustrated with me ... I miss you deeply Alpie ... I miss the feel of your body on my shoulder ... Pam also grieves for you and says, "It's so quiet without Alpie here. I really miss him." The sounds of silence can be deafening ... I know you are out of pain and discomfort. We wish we could have had you hold on for just a few more shoulder rides and special hugs ... I am honored to have had your love and devotion for 16 years ... thank you Alpie. I believe I can speak for your other mom when I say on her behalf, "Doodles," you not only opened my eyes to the wonderful world of cats, but you opened my heart to the wonderful you." We'll all be together again ... until then, always remember that you are home because home is in our hearts. We love you precious boy, your moms ... and Gizmo, Max and Tee-Tee |
