Memories of Coco
I prayed this day would never come. After a few abrupt episodes with IVDD, our sweet Coco crossed the rainbow bridge on Saturday at the tender age of 14.5. The first round of steroids at the New Year gave us hope that we could manage the progression for our senior lady. She was in such good spirits, almost puppy-like playful, getting used to her new ramp and the barriers around the stairs, letting us carry her, even bossing us around and we loved it! But her health took a turn on Thursday. No amount of meds could ease her pain, and surgery wouldn't be an option without putting her through even more suffering.

My heart is full, and empty, and broken all at the same time. I don't know how that is even possible. But I ache for my little lady. To hold her one more time, to kiss her floppy ears, to squeeze her tiny sweet Coco toes. What I wouldn't do to hear her little nails clicking around the house, to look into her big eyes begging for a handout, for her sweet little woof to ring in our ears, and to have her presence simply filling us completely with joy and love. She is one special creature that walked this earth with me, loyally by my side for nearly 15 years. With me through moves from Texas to Florida to NYC to Indiana. Through career changes, breakups, a wedding, ongoing infertility struggles and losses, and so much more. My one constant, my faithful companion for all of the years of my adult life.

Coco, I hope you are up in heaven, running with all of your friends, going on all the walks, unstuffing all of the toys, eating all of the scrambled eggs and chicken, barking at all of the people to your heart's content, snuggling in all of the blankets, shredding all of the tissues, and being your sweet little diva self. One day we will meet again, until then, so much peace to you my little sweet love, my lady, my Coco dog.
