Memories of Gwertz The Cat
| This memorial is dedicated to Gwertz who was the queen in our home. We love her so! It is also for all the children in my third grade classrooms over the years that loved to hear about Gwertz silly antics. Here is their all time favorite story. Gwertz came to our house in the Santa Cruz Mountains when she was very small. The first morning she woke up in her new house she had a bite to eat and set out running all over the house. Out the kitchen, down the hall, jump down the stairs into the living room, up again, into the den, make a u-turn, up the stairs across the bedroom, another u-turn on the toilet seat, back down...to find a cozy place in the sun to rest up. She did this so often we decided to call it having "the zoomers"! One day when she was "zooming" she had just raced up the stairs and was heading into the bathroom for her toilet seat u-turn. Guess what? The lid was up and into the tank she went. It was her first bath. Boy, was she mad. Luckily we were there to fish her out right away and that the water was clean. This is her first story I told my first class of third graders eleven years ago on the first day of school. It has become a tradition to introduce myself to each new class with this story. It is always a hit! We miss Gwertz so much, but I think I'll keep the tradtion of telling this story in her honor for as long as I teach. Her people dad's office is empty and lonely without Gwertz crawling over his keyboard and messing up his papers. Gwertz rests now under a redwood tree surrounded with ferns and daffodils. |
