Memories of Larry Cormier
|
Larry was the gentlest, kindest, most affectionate kitty. He and I shared such a special bond and relationship. In his short life, Larry was a "therapy" kitty and we made visits to the hospital to visits the old folks. This lady, Charlotte, looked forward to Larry's visits and her face lit up when we came into her room. Charlotte had just turned 100, the year Larry passed away and she had her wit about her. Her first meeting with me and Larry, she said to Larry, "you come back anytime and visit" and then she looked at me and said, "oh, you too, dear..but you understand, I really like Larry." I was not offended in any way - rather the opposite. Larry was the only kitty amongst 20 other dogs in the therapy group. Our trust of each other - made him a perfect therapy kitty. I was, in a way, very lucky to be on sick leave from work when Larry was sick. He seemed to sense I wasn't feeling well and was my "rock". I knew when his time had come - it was by far the MOST difficult thing I've ever had to do in my life. I had never had to euthanize a pet before...and I stayed with him, held him til the end. I cried for 2 days straight...I didn't know that pain like that existed. I don't know if that's comparable to someone losing their child. Larry will always have a place in my heart. His memory lives on in our family...and we have saved his favorite toy, "Mr. Mousey" for him - when we meet again. Love you "babies". Your "Mom". |
