Welcome to Leo's Rainbow Residency

Leo's Rainbow Residency

Memories of Leo

How privileged we were to be graced by this sweet face every single day for nearly 11 years. I only wish I was half as good a person as Leo always believed I was....that's a quote from someone and can't remember who. Rest in Peace, Leo. You were truly the best friend and pet any family could ever have. Sweet, loving, gentle, loyal, faithful... this house is awfully empty without you.My mind is filled with a thousand images of you running, playing, resting, watching, listening, hugging, comforting, asking and demanding at times, talking. How will this empty house ever feel the same without your holding court over every room. You owned this home and made it so warm and comforting. When the kids were teenagers and felt they had no one to talk to, you were always there. Through thick and thin, you were everyone's best friend and the keeper of everyone's secrets. You comforted and loved all of us and soldiered on even when you did not feel well these past six months.

I remember when Lauren brought you home from the shelter. To think that anyone would "throw" someone as precious as you away. You bonded with all of us and I remember you chewing up Birkenstocks, couches, rugs and furniture, but we loved you still.

You and Steve had a very special relationship. You two communicated. He taught you to talk in so many voices and with eye contact. Remember all those long walks the two of you and sometime me had together every single day..to Tufts, to the Cape, on the boat and to Cuttyhunk Island. You never did like the boat! You swam in the ocean - somewhat reluctantly at first. You went everywhere with Steve as a front seat passenger. His heart is so broken without you. If you are free and at peace and without pain, keep an eye on him. He loved you so much.

You were Adam's special buddy because he was only 11 when you came to live with us. You gave him so much love, comfort and special attention and he loved spending time with you and stealing you out of our room at night so he could have your sweet companionship.

Lauren called you boof boof and Lee Lee and she was your rescuer. I will never forget the day she held your adorable puppy self in her arms and asked if she could keep you. Never a hesitation for us...of course you were welcome. We tried to have you do the things the puppy trainers said were best, but by day two you were sleeping with us in our beds bonding with the whole family. You were our guardian, our protector. When Curley was here, we used to thank you for guarding the house and the care of the "pig". You never met a dog you did not love.

Forgive us, Leo, for having to make that final very hard decision. We listened to your labored breathing and gasping for air and we watched you try to be so strong for us even greeting us at the door when your legs were barely able to walk. We wanted to take away your pain and we knew we would have to take on that pain ourselves in order to free you. We love you so much. You belonged with this family and were such a big part of all of our everyday happiness. Rest in peace, dear sweet boy. We wish we had you forever.
