Memories of Meg

We rescued Meg from the Delaware County SPCA in 1994 two weeks after our first Border Collie, Kelly, died. We found her through Border Collie Rescue. The SPCA told us that she had been loose on the streets of Upper Darby, PA for over 6 months before they were able to catch her. She was surviving by raiding garbage cans for something to eat. When we saw her for the first time she was so skinny and was almost hairless. She looked better after a few months and began showing us how smart she was. Without any training at all, she was able to herd sheep right into a pen when she was taken to a sheep herding event for the first time. She also was a great frisbee catcher and enjoyed playing with us so much that she was constantly trotting up to us with the frisbee in her mouth. Meg also learned to recognize certain words and when a sign which spelled "ball" was hung in front of her she would run to fetch a ball. She was a typical Border Collie who needed lots of activity. We had lots of fun with her.
