Memories of Vito

I was at a very broken place in my life. I was 22 years old and facing hardship's I would not wish on my worst enemy when Vito came into my life. I happened to be at work when a coworker mentioned to me that his mother's cat just gave birth to a liter of baby kittens. With out hesitation I told my coworker I would love to take one. A few weeks later the kitten was ready for me to take. I will never forget the first time I laid eyes on him. The cutest sweetest little ball of fur I ever seen in my life. I zipped him up in my jacket and off we went to buy him every little thing a kitten could desire. I got home that night and realized I was now a Mommy. With no children of my own at that point and being estranged from my family Vito was all I had. I was in a very scary place in my life at this time. Many nights Vito laid in bed with me licking my tears and telling me that everything was going to be ok in the only way he could, by showing me unconditional love. The months to follow I moved many times and struggled to survive. Vito never left my side. He gave me moments of joy and laughter when I thought that God did not want me to be happy. He showed me that people can love when I thought that love did not exist. He taught me to think about others before myself. He did this all with out uttering a word . Finally I got my life together and reunited with my family. I moved home and Vito flourished in a nice warm house with 3 other dog's to befriend. My family and friends fell in love with him as did everyone who met him. Even people who were allergic to cat's some how were not bothered by Vito's fur. For the next 3 years Vito continued to make cat people out of dog people and bring laughter and happiness to our home. He was there for us to play with to cry to to show us that a broken girl who once lost her way could find her way back home.
