You Came Into My Life and Made Me Love You

You came into my life and made me love you.
You touched my heart and always made me smile.
And when your legs no longer worked, I held you.
I carried you through each and every mile.

Each morning when I saw you I was happy.
Your every day was spent here in my arms.
I made a promise that I'd always love you.
And swore to keep you safe from any harm.

There was no magic potion I could give you.
Aging is the angriest of foes.
The bed you slept on now sits, sadly, empty,
The eyes that used to search for me are closed.

Now I sit in solitude without you,
And endless tears flow freely from my eyes.
The piercing pain within my heart is constant.
There's nothing sadder than our last goodbyes.

It seems you came and went so very quickly.
I knew you'd only stay a little while.
You came into my life and made me love you.
You touched my heart and always made me smile.
