A DAY INSIDE WITH GRAND-MOTHER

by Janice Beck.........................................

A Day In with GRAND-MOTHER

It's the weekend and a rainy day. Grand-mother and I has cancelled our outdoor plans due to the weather. Grandmother, just would we do on this rainy Saturday? I asked. Grandmother puts on her thinking cap and goes into her thinking mode as usual when asked a question and as always when she is finished, there is always something in the plans that I would enjoy doing inside with grandmother.

I guess I will prepare breakfast first. Grandmother said as she washed her hands. Uh Grandmother, may I help? Sure you can. Grandmother replied and smiled. Grandmother, Ruth knows that I enjoys helping her in the kitchen. Wash your hands baby. She said. My grandmother hardly called me by my name, Pam. Get the egg baby. Grandmother gathered the meat and another side dish as I opened the refrigerator and pulled out the eggs. I stood at the kitchen table cracking eggs and placing them in a bowl while grandmother cooked the meat and a side-dish. In the past, grandmother Ruth had taught me to season the eggs. She know that I enjoys that most of all in helping her prepare the breakfast; I knows if the breakfast is a good one, I will get some of the credit for it being tasty. I enjoy cooking with grand-mother.

I guess I should clean the house now baby. Said grand-mother.
Nothing has me to feel more self-worth than knowing that I was a part of making grand-mother feel comfortable in a clean house. I enjoy house-keeping with grand-mother. Oh grand-mother may I help! I shouted. Well sure you can baby. She smiled and replied. In almost every room in the house grand-mother would assign me a task as she worked along. She knows that I enjoy doing house cleaning with her. Together, grand-mother Ruth and I prepared the beds in the bedrooms. On some occasions, I would prepare the beds while she would sweep the floors. Either way, it is always a pleasure doing housework with grand-mother. It made me feel good inside to see the smile on her face after the house was clean and neat.

On almost every day of our days in, grand-mother, Ruth and I would color a picture together from one of my coloring books. Sometimes, we would color the same picture together and other times we would color individual pictures. She knows that I enjoys coloring with her, because in the end she always had something nice to say concerning my coloring. I guess we can do some coloring now. Grand-mother said. Uh, Uh, Uh, grand-mother, I responded. " Grand-mother your picture looks better than mines." I said after we were finished coloring. No baby, Their both beautiful pictures. She responded as usual.

Grandmother has a habit of closing out a good day inside with her by making me feel like I am smart. I enjoyed doing math with her. Now baby let's do some math. Grandmother said as she scratched her head as though she was afraid of me with math. My grand-mother is a make do kind of person, whatever we could get our hands on around the house to
