"For Barkley"
by Sheila Richardson.........................................
|
The snow has almost gone Bark, and the grass is showing through. I bet if you were here you would be rolling in the grass too. Oscar is lying in his spot on the grass in front of the deck. He's enjoying the sun on his black coat, and thinking of you I expect. There is a dog barking in a garden down the road a ways. Oscar responds with a bark, could it be you? But no, you are far far away. He sniffs and sniffs around the yard, I know he smells your scent. He's been unsettled and lonely since the day you went. I know he misses you very much, he follows me everywhere. I am giving him twice as much love, he is now getting your share. Sitting in the garden makes me so sad and blue. Sadness overwhelms me each and every day. I'm going to keep writing, my thoughts won't go away. "Barkley" July 1, 1999 - February 11, 2010 |
