Our sweet babies Casey & Madison

by Susan Morell.........................................

We made the mistake of going into a pet store located in a mall in San Diego. There she was: An 8 week old Brittany Spaniel that the minute I laid my eyes on her, I was in love. We lived in a condo that didn't allow dogs, but we were moving into a house in three months. My husband fought me on it, but that dog was going to be MINE. She was sick with kennel cough, under weight and we could tell she was a puppy-mill puppy, but we bought her and took her home. For three months I smuggled her in and out of our condo so the property managers wouldn't see her. They never knew she was there. We named her Casey Nicole and for the next 14 yrs she was the love our lives. She was so special, so loving and the best dog anyone could ever hope for. We fell in love with the breed and decided to rescue another female brittany when Casey was two. We found her "sissy" at a local rescue and named her Madison. The two were inseperable. They loved each other as if they were litter mates. We enjoyed them both for many years, but could tell by the whiteness of their faces and slowness in their steps, they were getting older and someday that horrible decision would have to be made. Madison's time came first. She was 14 or 15 yrs old and her little kidneys failed. We tried as best we could, but our little sweet baby slipped away. We made the decision to let her go Thanksgiving weekend 2007. My husband held her and stayed with her (she was his baby,,,) Our hearts were broken. A year later I received the devestating news that Casey too had kidney failure. She was 14. My little baby fought as hard as she could. She couldn't keep food down, and had trouble standing. The last week of her life I carried her everywhere and she would lay in bed with me and watch TV. She was only hanging on because of me - I was the one that couldn't let her go. On March 18, 2009, I let my sweet angel go to the Rainbow Bridge. I will never recover from the loss of my two beautiful babies. We have two more brittany's now: Marlee (who looks and acts like Madision) and Mylah (who acts like Casey) They will never take the place of Casey and Madison in our hearts, but God was very smart: He made our hearts very big with lots of room to love ALL our babies.
